Joe Pilates was a part of the Influenza Epidemic in 1918. He believed that if one would move their spine they would remain healthy and free from influenza.
He was right! Science has since found that moving the spine stimulates the immune system.
During the epidemic of 1918 while in a containment camp he asked the warden if he could teach a class to anyone who wished to take it. No one who took his class got the flu! They all remained healthy while others were not.
So during this time, no matter what, move your spine each day!
The Van de Kamp Technique is Pilates with a "twist"- a fusion of various body work modalities with Pilates work.
Rina Van de Kamp overcame a deathbed of a coma with brain damage and paralysis that occurred in 1995. Pilates was the start of physical work that helped. Another modality that greatly influenced her healing process was Feldenkrais work. Others were a part too like: Bartinieff Fundamentals, the work of Mable Todd, Lulu Swiegard, and Irene Dowd; Neuromuscular Reprograming, PNF, and Nia Five Stages.
Van de Kamp Technique is about using this fusion of body work modalities to help you accomplish your goals. Increase rage of motion, decrease discomfort, and bring ease to your body.
This is done gently with a seemingly small amount of effort that brings great rewards.
